I have fallen in love with Romance as a genre in the last couple of years. I know I am not alone, as romance sales have soared since the first lockdown—I think it’s the adrenaline of all those happy ever after.
As for tropes, I like a good fake-dater, or an enemies-to-lovers, or a forbidden love (lord, how I love those)…but the stories I love all have one thing in common and that is that they generally feature a grumpy hero, and usually a less grumpy heroine.
So, while these may not all be classic grumpy/sunshine stories (cause sometimes the heroine makes with the serious snark), they are all kind of that.
As for why I like grumpy heroes…well…that is a personal failing, I must admit. I don’t like nice boys. They give me hives. Give me a complicated, growly guy on a motorcycle over a nice accountant any day.
I know. There may be something seriously wrong with me.

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
I love the little graphics you made, they’re adorable! 🥰 And you’re book choices all sound so interesting!

I enjoy a grumpy hero too! And you gave some great examples. And some books, I’ll have to go check out.

I enjoy a grumpy hero if he has redemptive qualities which they usually. Great list Lori.

I love grumpy/sunshine and enemies to lovers, but I’m not a big fan of fake dating. I loved that layout of your list. The backgrounds were fun.

I’m seeing a trend here — you like Lucky Score books! 😀 Love the way you’ve added in the blurbs, and I can totally see the appeal of Mr. Grumps.

I DO like Lucy Score=—I think that she is the best RomCom author working right now. Her books are steamy without being gross, funny without being too over the top, and emotional without being cloying. She’s just amazing. 🙂
