Beginning with this week, Let’s Talk Bookish has a new home at Book Nook Bits. Which brings us to this week’s question, submitted by FIVES @ DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE—
EATING & READING: YAY OR NAY?
Prompts: Do you ever (carefully) eat and read at the same time? Or are your books too precious to possibly get dirty? Perhaps eating and an audiobook? Do any books ever make you hungry? Is there a time and place for a nice snack or meal with a good book, or should books be focused on independently?
OF COURSE I eat and read. If I didn’t, I’d never eat, and then I would starve.
Specifically, I read at restaurants. I read on picnics. I read in movie theaters, eating popcorn and waiting for the previews. I eat in my car at Wendy’s, juggling some tasty cheese fries (extra pepper), with my kindle propped against the steering wheel. Just an hour ago, I ate in this very seat while I scarfed down some Special-K (with Red Berries, natch).
My favorite reading snack is probably some Twizzlers or Hi-Chews. They allow for good, contemplative chewing, plus they are delicious and decidedly not-messy.
What about you? Are reading and eating two great things that go great together? I’ll take your messy confessions in the comments.

The Let’s Talk Bookish meme is hosted Aria at Book Nook Bits. The meme was started (and hosted through April 2022) by Rukky @ Eternity Books & Dani @ Literary Lion.
Snacking and reading is the best 🙂 Not biscuits though, or I get crumbs between the pages.

I’m eating tortilla chips while reading this blog! I can’t imagine not being able to eat while I read.

I don’t do it all the time but I do tend to eat and read often especially when I’m enjoying a meal by myself! 😃 I tend to go for popcorn and crisps and I eat them with chopsticks to keep my fingers from getting sticky, haha!

Like you, if I didn’t eat or drink while reading, I’d probably starve! Of course, I don’t read while eating with other people, but otherwise, absolutely!

Basically all of this.
Reading is snack time. And eating out along I always have a book, or now kindle, with me — and there was plenty of eating out alone back when I was traveling for work (or simply didn’t feel like cooking that night).
About the only place we diverge is reading while eating in the car. There I keep listening to the podcast(s) that were on while I was driving.
And now with (waterproof) kindles I don’t even have to worry about food stains on the books — though those were very rare anyway; in my experience. (Still, back in the day I might switch to reading something else during a meal if my primary book was borrowed or old/rare; just as an extra precaution)

I have a cup of coffee or tea next to me when I read. I don’t eat while reading because it hard to hold a book and eat at the same time.
