This week’s prompt was submitted by Heather @ MM Romance Reviewed.
Do you have a threshold on books where you will offer the author feedback but won't review?
I really don’t. I guess I self-censor to a certain extent because I don’t typically write full reviews for books that I hate. But for reviews that I am writing for NetGalley, I will always write the review, regardless of whether I liked the book or not.
That said, I do always try to find something that worked, even in a book that didn’t work for me. I don’t like to write total chop-jobs, even for a book that really wasn’t my thing. I like to imagine that there is a reader for every book, and it’s kind of my job to get y’all hooked up.
It’s a book Love Connection service I provide.
What about you? Will you not review something you hated?

The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the hop on February 15, 2013. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book-related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog
I generally don’t write reviews at all, I just rate books for my own information – but one I did write a (brief) review for was for a book I hated. The book was so lacking in redeeming qualities that I felt I had to say something to explain my 1 star rating and serve a something of a warning to others.

I agree, Lori. I can always find something in a book that is positive, even if the book overall isn’t for me. Just the fact that someone wrote an entire book and got it published is a huge feat in itself. I’ve only DNF’d one book that I got from NetGalley.

Since I started blogging I’ve been reviewing every book that I read including those that I don’t particularly enjoy. Actually, I find it much easier to write reviews for those books that I disliked compared to the books I absolutely adored 🙈 But I’ve been re-thinking my need to write full reviews for every single book I’ve read and recently, I’ve not marked the books that I read but didn’t enjoy. Not sure if I’ll continue doing that or not though!

I kind of review everything—I do a full-length review of a featured book every week, and include short reviews of the others as part of the Sunday Post. But I wonder if more full-length reviews would be a good thing to do. Once I get past my one-year anniversary in July, I may reassess.
