LTB: Secondhand books

This week’s topic comes to us from HASINI @ BIBLIOSINI who asks—

Do you buy secondhand books? Why or why not? What are the benefits of buying secondhand? What are the cons of secondhand books? What do you recommend people do to better support secondhand bookstores?

As someone who is 100% a kindle reader, I wish I could, but I can’t.

In the BK days I used to buy a fair amount from Half-Price Books, and always enjoyed a Saturday afternoon at a local used-book store. But there really is no practical way to transfer that experience into a digital world, so I think that my days of buying used books are behind me.

What about you? Do you like used-book shopping?

The Let’s Talk Bookish meme is hosted by Rukky @ Eternity Books & Dani @ Literary Lion.

  1. I’ve bought some online but I love looking at used book stores. Sadly, there aren’t many where I live and those that we do have don’t always have a large selection of books in English…

  2. I used to love book shopping when I had access to secondhand bookstores and whatnot. I occasionally buy books off people selling them online locally but it’s very rare (and the prices are generally the same as new books anyway)! I miss finding great deals in secondhand bookstores 🙈

  3. These days seemingly only for stuff that’s long out of print — yes, yes, eventually I’ll get around to completing my Rick Brant collection. (And for those I’m not generally browsing used bookstores; because the odds they’ll have the book I’m looking for is low and the odds they’ll have a good price if they do is even lower. I’m generally using abebooks.com when I decide to buy such a book)
