Sunday Post: 12/05/21

Hello, my lovelies.

This is the eleventh installment of The Sunday Post and as I typed the date, I paused at the year, not sure if I have been doing ‘2021’ or just ‘21’. So I went back to look and it turns out that 5 times it was ‘2021’ and five times it was ‘21’.

Sigh. Imma have to fix that or I won’t sleep tonight.

I’m a mess, y’all.

Something exciting happened this week. I would like to introduce you to my new reading bestie, Kaia:

Kaia is a new Kindle SE, and she is…she is something. She is fast, and her battery lasts freaking FOREVER, and her contrast is the best I have ever seen in an e-reader. And she has seventeen LEDs, and her name is Hawaiian for “sea” so I chose some pretty blue vestments, and a pretty blue cover, and we are going to be best friends. 💗

Seriously, I have hated all the kindles since the 2016 Oasis1, so this is revelatory. I had started stockpiling those old Oases, preparing for a future with only Kindles That Suck™️ , so this is unexpectedly amazing.

Today is another board gaming day, with our friend Lowell coming to spend the day. FL bought some Raclette (a type of melty cheese) at Whole Foods, and we have some smoked sausage, and taters, and those tiny pickles that seem to go with Raclette in the restaurants but which I wouldn’t eat with someone else’s mouth. Cause, pickles, Eww.

There will also be an apple pie at some point, and ice cream, and if I am feeling frisky, some homemade caramel sauce.

We really want to be on diets right now heading into the holidays, because, well, we like when our jeans fit. And right now, well, they do…but they aren’t…I mean, they are significantly less comfy than my yoga pants, and I will need to be wearing them over the month, as I go to various celebrations.

So, we talk about diets…and then I think about homemade caramel sauce…and the diets seem like a tomorrow problem, you know?

Also, this happened:

And this. (Warning of some harsh language at the VERY beginning. I mean, it’s Dave Grohl, so that shouldn’t be a shock, but still…)

I was right last week about only reading one book this week, but, unfortunately, it wasn’t Never, which I am still only 91% of the way through. I stopped in the middle because it was just a little too much that day, and I read a romance novel, then I went right back to the terrifyingly plausible near-future that Mr. Follett has dragged out of his brain. This book is good, but damn. It’s horrifying, mostly because we are always about three months away from this eventuality and we don’t think about it. More on Wednesday’s review.

The book I did read was Whisky Chaser by Lucy Score with Claire Kingsley.

It was adorable, as all of Lucy’s books are. It’s the first book in a series about a girl and all her brothers, who all will find love in subsequent volumes. As a family does. In this one, the main protagonist is the sister, but we are introduced to all the brothers, and, of course, the one I care about most is going to be book six. So, checkmate to you, Lucy. Checkmate to you.

Well, that’s all from the 52 kitchens, where we now must search for a good caramel recipe.

Till next week, stay safe, read a great book, take a nap, get your booster, and take as many deep breaths as you need to. December, y’all. It’s not for the weak.

  1. Welcome Kaia. Nice name! Cheese and boardgames sounds good… and the other goodies also.

Grohl’s doing Manilow now???!? I enjoyed his BeeGees take a couple months ago… 🙂

  2. Kaia looks awesome! Not gonna lie, I got myself an Oasis this year and the battery life has been wickedly disappointing. I mostly read on my Kindle so it’s pretty sad that sometimes the battery doesn’t even last for 3 days depending on how much I’m reading (which is usually a lot)? 🙃 Ah, well!

Also, yummo, apple pie and ice cream! 🤤 What are these diets you speak of? 😅 I hope you have a fab week ahead!
