Today’s query comes to us from Elizabeth @ Silver’s Reviews), who asks:
What is your least favorite social media app and why?
This is the easiest question I have been asked in a minute.
Twitter. Hands down, no contest. Good Lord and Butter do I hate Twitter.
It makes no sense, and not because I’m a disenfranchised member of Generation X, which I am, or because I am a luddite, which I am not, but because it’s designed from the ground up to be someone with a megaphone shouting at a crowd. Sure, there is some interaction, but it’s ridiculously hard to follow (if it weren’t, thread aggregators wouldn’t b be such a cottage industry). It’s not designed to mimic community interaction. It’s not designed for conversation.
And I only care about social media at all because of the community aspects of it. I want to talk with people, not get shouted at. For that reason, I dismiss Twitter with a wave of my paw.
So, is there a social media platform that you hate? I’ll listen empathetically in the comments.
The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the hop on February 15, 2013. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book-related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog
I agree it is called SOCIAL media for a reason. I also think the atmosphere on Twitter is more hostile than other platforms. People are mean. I left Twitter a couple years ago, and I’m so grateful.

Facebook for me. I have tired of that platform SOOO much and I’m not even sure I can articulate exactly why- it just aggravates me so much now. Maybe I have the wrong friends on there lol!
I like Twitter but you’re not wrong ha ha! And lately I find myself having to moderate my use of it because it’s like, as someone said, doomscrolling sometimes. ;

I can’t stand Twitter. I click through sometimes when I get a notice about a tweet from someone I follow, but it doesn’t take more than a minute or two to feel how toxic the platform is.

Twitter is one I don’t really use much, and am very selective of when I do. It can be so toxic and negative on there, and trying to follow a “discussion” on there is impossible.
