This week flew by. Last weekend was a holiday, so the lovely roomie had Monday off. We celebrated this rare event by having people over on Sunday and Monday for games. This was a ton of fun, but I entered the new week completely exhausted. I think I mostly slept through Tuesday, then had to deal with AAA on Wednesday, because my car sat so long after my paralysis that the battery died.
I also have to figure out if my passport is valid, which seems much more straightforward than it is. See, about a year ago, our house was broken into, and the creeps stole a bunch of stuff literally from under my sleeping nose. One of the drawers that they emptied contained the lovely roomie’s passport, and since I usually keep mine with hers, I assumed that mine was stolen as well. At the time, it was certainly my intent to report it as stolen, but for the life of me, I can’t remember if I really did that, or if I just THINK I did…and lo and behold, what showed up in a bag that I hadn’t opened since the last cruise? Yeah, the passport. Right now, passport applications are running 18 weeks, and I will need one by May, so I called them today to see if I need to apply for a new one, or if by some miracle, I didn’t actually call to report it stolen, which would be a procrastination blessing.
However, they have no idea if I reported it stolen or not. Yeah. You heard me. Apparently, I have to make a request, in writing, via the actual postal mail, and someone will get back to me to let me know if they still list my passport as valid or not.
If this takes longer than 8 weeks, getting it replaced before my May cruise is going to be tricky.
And…I mean…How can they not know? How is there only one person (or department) who has access to this information? It’s very odd.
I also did not get my immunizations scheduled, which is a problem. If I don’t get them soon, I’m going to have to start over with two of them. Which makes me feel like an idiot, but there is a reason that I say that I have no executive function any more.
I did finally get an insurance adjuster out to look at the car I wrecked in December of 2019, which is good, but also a little horrifying. Of course, now that they have direct deposited the payment into my account, I guess I have to actually get the car fixed. I mean, I want to get it fixed. I do. Because I want to sell it, since I don’t drive anymore.
But this will be literally the first time in 38 years that I won’t own a car. Which is…scary. Disheartening. Exhilarating, too, but disheartening. My disability is easy to ignore, until I want to go get my legs waxed and I have to call an Uber. I took for granted for all those years how freaking MOBILE I was, and how easy it was to get around.
I did get some new gold eye shadow, and a book that I have had on hold at the library for a MINUTE came in, though, so the week wasn’t a total loss.
And I dyed my hair blue, which is both terrifying and awesome. I used something that SHOULD be semi-permanent, but I guess we will see if it washes out. However, I love it so much that I already bought two more kits, so I have enough to re-dye it five more times, so there is that.
On the blog front, I did post five things, which is where I have settled for now. I read four books, two of which will possibly get a review in the next couple of weeks.
That’s all from this end of the castle. Stay safe and read on…

Getting a passport now is tough everywhere! My husband didn’t renew his when it expired in 2019 and he is regretting it now for sure! Good luck!

I would be exactly the same about whether I had cancelled the passport or not. Though usually I find lost items a week or two AFTER I’ve cancelled/replaced them. I couldn’t imagine having to rely on public transport or Ubers, I feel your pain! Have a great week.

I hope you are able to sort out the passport issue. If you have a travel agent they may be able to help ascertain if it’s valid or not.
I wish I was brave enough to dye my hair blue!
Wishing you a great reading week

I do have a travel agent! I didn’t think about that. Thanks for the thought. I might post a picture of the blue hair…it actually looks pretty cool. 🙂

I was always intending that it would be temporary, but I really like it! It was a bucket-list thing, but now…I’m gonna keep it for a while, I think. 🙂
