Top Ten Books I’d Want With Me While Stranded On a Deserted Island…
So, this is a tricky question. Because if I am stranded on a desert island, I’m not necessarily going to want the best books ever, am I? I’m going to want the most entertaining, most distracting stories, told about people who are always fun to spend time with.
To put it in movie terms, I recognize that Reds is a way better movie than The Replacements, but I’d choose to spend the weekend with Shane Falco over John Reed any day.
So, with that in mind, there are no Shakespeares, no Janes Austins, no Proust. No Melville. No Homer, no Brontë and for the love of the baby Jesus, no Tolstoy. The criteria were good books, entertaining, uplifting (I’m trapped on an island—I do not need to read The Bell Jar), with high re-readability (cause I only get 10!). I cheated a little and included three Omnibus Editions of series that I love. Sneaks me up to 23 discrete books…which is still so woefully insignificant.
What’s your ten? Let me know in the comments!

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
Wool is a great pick!

I love Wool so much! But you were way more practical than I was. I hope that I am stranded with you so I don’t starve.

I agree with you – it’s best to have entertaining, uplifting books if you’re stranded!

Since I’m big into history books, my top ten would probably include Silk Roads and The Knight in History

The WOOL omnibus is a great choice! I loved the first book, but I still haven’t read the sequels. They’re huge books, so a deserted island would be a great place to finally delve into them.
Happy TTT!

I might need to read it again, with or without the desert island!

I’m due a reread of Mr Penumbra at some point, I loved it when I read it 5+ years ago. Happy reading. My TTT https://readwithstefani.com/ten-books-i-want-to-read-by-the-end-of-2021/

The only one I have heard of on your list is Counting by 7’s, although I have not read it. I agree that the reads need to be entertaining. I read a lot of suspense but felt that would not be great reads if I was stranded on an island. Thanks for sharing.
